Increased CD36 expression has been shown to correlate with dyslipidemia (Koonen et al. 2007) and inflammatory hepatic stress (Liu et al. 2018b) as well as to enhance the susceptibility to develop hepatic steatosis and NAFLD (Sheedfar et al. 2014; Steneberg et al. 2015). Here, CD36 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
