FGF2 and ischemic stroke: Mounting evidences are suggesting that microglia exhibit the proangiogenic function through forming perivascular clusters and secreting multiple factors such as VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), basigin-2, and FGF2 (fibroblast growth factor 2), which makes them key regulators and guides of angiogenesis in ischemic stroke and traumatic brain injury (TBI) [23–27].
