The lack of evidence of association between previously identified CYP17A1 and SERPINA6/A1 SNPs, and the tested cardiometabolic risk factors in the present study, was likely attributed to lower minor allele frequencies (Supplementary Table S3) in combination with the distinct metabolic profile of the studied population (e.g., almost half of the participants had the metabolic syndrome), compared to non-Africans. Here, CYP17A1 is linked to metabolic syndrome.
