Moreover, the here observed progressive increase of Gal-3 protein level across the experimental groups seems to positively correlate with the activation of the lipogenic SREBP1c pathway, with the triglyceride content, and with the grade of steatosis, as indicated by some papers on NAFLD and NASH in animal models and by a clinical study on liver biopsies from NAFLD children51–53. This evidence concerns the gene LGALS3 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
