Studies have reported that gefitinib (an inhibitor of EGFR tyrosine kinase) and cetuximab (monoclonal antibody anti EGFR) exert their antitumor effects through induction of cellular senescence in vivo and in vitro in non-small cell lung cancer, and this senescence program is independent from p53 and/or p16 function (Hotta et al., 2007; Francica et al., 2016). The gene discussed is EGFR; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
