In addition to metabolic pathways, the T2D cis-NEMGs may also implicate general mitochondrial function in T2D genetic risk, including mitochondrial transcription and translation (MRPL11, MRPS33, TRMT11, COXPD7, GATC, MARS2); fission (MARCH5, MFF, MTFR1L); organization and dynamics (LACTB, PGAM5); transport (SLC25A26, CLIC4, SFXN2, TOMM20, HSPD1, ABCA13, ABCB9) and the electron transport chain (COQ10B, NDUFB4, COX7A2, NDUFV3 and COA6). Here, NDUFB4 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
