As the major polyphenol presented in red wine, resveratrol has been correlated with lower incidence of myocardial infarction in France compared to other countries, which is the so-called “French paradox.” In our previous study, resveratrol was shown to decrease oxidative stress in atherosclerosis-prone apolipoprotein E-knockout (ApoE-KO) mice by limiting ROS production and accelerating ROS detoxification (Xia et al., 2010). This evidence concerns the gene APOE and myocardial infarction.
