Pre-clinical studies indicate that LAG-3 inhibition activates the effector capabilities of T cells and synergizes with other immune checkpoint inhibitors (i.e., anti-PD-1/PD-L1) [34–38], which provides a strong rationale for simultaneously targeting LAG-3 and PD-1/PD-L1 to enhance anti-tumor T cell immunity.
