In a murine model of Ebola infection, where CD8+ T cells are required for protection from infection [26], and where there is general precedent for multifunctional T cells in viral infections as limiting disease progression [10,27,28,29], this qualitative aspect of increased multifunctional CD8+ T cells observed with saponin adjuvant may be important for vaccine efficacy. This evidence concerns the gene CD8A and viral infectious disease.
