The evolution of endometriosis has been linked to a range of M1 macrophage polarization markers, including tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α)—a marker with a strong inflammatory, cytotoxic and angiogenic potential, and IL-1β, IL-12, IL-8, IL-10 and IL-6, which promote the growth of endometrial cells.
