Adiponectin represses proliferation in breast cancer cells through inactivation of p44/42 MAPK protein 1 and 3 expressions, a stimulation of AMPK activity by phosphorylation at Thr172, and a decrease in Akt phosphorylation (Thr308) associated with an increased expression of LKB1 leading to a reduction of mTOR activity as evidenced by reduced phosphorylation of S6K (Taliaferro-Smith et al., 2009). This evidence concerns the gene MTOR and breast cancer.
