Other possible mechanisms involving DYRK1A, necessary for β-cell restoration are (i) phosphorylation and stabilization of p27KIP1, (ii) phosphorylation of D-cyclins and acceleration of their degradation; (iii) phosphorylation of the DREAM complex member, LIN52, enforcing cell cycle arrest; and (iv) phosphorylation of tau protein crucial for AD [149].
