Howes et al. have shown that mutations in the CARD14 gene increase the risk of psoriasis via the up-regulation of the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma translocation protein 1 (MALT1) paracaspase activity, which is required for optimal NF-κB pathway function and significant expression of the pro-inflammatory genes in the keratinocytes [17]. Here, MALT1 is linked to psoriasis.
