It has been proposed that the mediators involved in the pathogenesis of CC, such as the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-α, hormones (e.g., leptin and ghrelin), and peptides, such as CAF [22,23], could be used as classical biomarkers in the development and progression of cachexia, although the exact role of these molecules has not been fully elucidated yet [23,25].
