Although p53 is a downstream target of STAT3, known to be attenuated by IL-6 via the JAK/STAT3 pathway in various cell types such as LNCap (p53 wild-type) and 22Rv1 (one wild-type copy of p53 and one mutated copy of p53) prostate cancer cells [38], we did not find any changes in p53 level upon IL-6 exposure on MDA-MB-231 cells (data not shown). The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is prostate carcinoma.
