This observation can be explained, in part, by higher prevalence of other cardiometabolic diseases and comorbidities; higher expression of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2), an essential receptor for host cell infection with SARS-CoV-2; increased secretion of proinflammatory cytokine release from adipose tissues; and several adverse respiratory mechanical factors in obesity [29,32,33]. This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
