TNF and neoplasm: It was concluded that the antitumor activity of WSDP is likely due to the synergistic effects of constituent polyphenolic compounds such as caffeic acid, quercetin, chrysin, and naringenin, and it was further proposed that these compounds interfere with tumor growth by enhancing apoptosis, macrophage activation, and production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, and NO, some of which can directly damage tumor cells, whereas others act indirectly by enhancing the activities of natural killer (NK) cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes.
