This raises the interesting question of whether increases in αvβ3 integrin expression in the aged TM could also be contributing to cell loss or senescence in the TM which is known to be associated with POAG and thought to be one of the causes of POAG [119] Notably, Yu, et al. [120] found that TGFβ2 induced senescence-associated changes within HTM cells and activated a senescence-related signaling pathway similar to that reported by Rapisarda, et al. [116]. The gene discussed is TGFB2; the disease is open-angle glaucoma.
