Most importantly, TGF-β altered the gene expression profile of MDSCs, upregulating pro-metastatic genes such as Mfge8. Although MFGE8 did not promote MDSCs immunosuppressive function itself, it affected the phenotype of B16F10 melanoma cells, suggesting a role of TGF-β and TGF-β—induced genes in tumor metastasis. This evidence concerns the gene MFGE8 and melanoma.
