Guimarães et al. [87] evaluated the interleukin-1β and serotonin transporter gene (5-HTTLPR) polymorphisms in BMS patients and found no significant difference in 5-HTTLPR genotypes between the case and control groups (p = 0.60); however, a significant increase was observed in the IL-1β high production genotype CT in BMS subjects (p < 0.005). This evidence concerns the gene IL1B and burning mouth syndrome.
