Considering the adverse effects of 7-DHC-derived oxysterols [14] and the positive effects of antioxidants in human dermal fibroblasts from SLOS patients and a transgenic mouse model [12], preventing the formation of 7-DHC oxysterols may counter the detrimental effects of DHCR7 mutations. Here, DHCR7 is linked to Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome.
