On a broader perspective, our study raises two important questions, (1) exactly what difference does this PPREs-Alu repeat configuration make in the genome compared to common PPREs, (2) if the involvement of repetitive Alu genomes mediates and extends the function of these pleiotropic PPARγ and DNMT1 genes towards other dysregulated scenarios (e.g., connecting metabolism and cancer). Here, PPARG is linked to cancer.
