In chronic inflammation-mediated esophageal cancers, not only IL6-STAT3 (signal transducer and activator of transcription 3) pathway increases epithelial proliferation and apoptotic resistance in Barrett’s esophagus and EAC but also neoplastic cells utilize STAT3 signaling to promote tumorigenesis, angiogenesis, and metastases (111, 112). The gene discussed is STAT3; the disease is esophageal cancer.
