Under normal conditions, TNF‐α is undetectable in plasma, but its level becomes elevated in plasma and renal tissues of rodent models of hypertension induced by the chronic administration of angiotensin II (AngII; Castillo et al., 2018; Guzik et al., 2007; Lara et al., 2012; Sriramula et al., 2008), nitric oxide (NO) inhibitor agents (Shahid et al., 2008; Singh et al., 2014; Whiting et al., 2013), DOCA salt (Elmarakby et al., 2008), and also in Dahl salt‐sensitive rats (Huang et al., 2016). The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is hypertensive disorder.
