We used three independent models of diabetes—leptin receptor–deficient mice (db/db), high-fat diet (HFD)–induced disease, and STZ-induced disease (two models of type 2 diabetes and one type 1 model)—that are all associated with progressive retinal dysfunction and dysmorphology (21, 22, 23). The gene discussed is LEPR; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
