A prospective cohort study which consisted of 67 consecutive admissions with suspected endocarditis and 21 patients with an infection found a strong association between PCT levels with endocarditis and significantly higher procalcitonin levels in patients with endocarditis (median 6.56 ng/ml vs. 0.44 ng/ml, P < 0.001, AUC 0.856 (95% CI 0.750-0.962)). This evidence concerns the gene CALCA and infection.
