SQSTM1 and cancer: Rapamycin (100 nM) decreases the expression of damage sensor p-χH2AX to that of control levels whereas Chloroquine (50 μM) significantly increases the expression of p-χH2AX in immunofluorescence than in UV-B alone and P62-silenced HDFs irradiated with UV-B, indicating that autophagy induction regulates the UV-B-induced damage and also impacts upon repair process and imparts pro-survival capability to UV-B-exposed HDFs, thereby reducing chances of cancer development (Figures 6C, D).
