It has been reported that CGRP induced the activation of astrocytes at the transcriptional level through expression of the immediate‐early genes c‐fos and increased astrocytic marker of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) expression in spinal cord following peripheral nerve injury,14, 15, 16 suggesting that CGRP may play a physiological role as a regulator of astrocyte gene expression. This evidence concerns the gene GFAP and peripheral nerve injury.
