The increased expression of MMP-2 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 2 (TIMP-2) was found to be implicated in the regulation of cell migration during extracellular matrix turnover in unilateral and bilateral orofacial clefts, meanwhile increased expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-4 was found to be significant in regulation of remodelation, especially, in unilateral orofacial clefts [36]. The gene discussed is MMP9; the disease is orofacial cleft.
