ERVW-1 and hepatocellular carcinoma: The ability of MAIT cells to migrate and kill HBV antigen expressing liver targets was investigated in a 3D microfluidic device, whereby TCR-MAIT and TCR-ConT cells are allowed to interact with hepatoma cells expressing a GFP reporter covalently linked to the HBV envelope protein (HepG2-PreS1-GFP), as previously described.[34], [35], [36] As shown in Fig. 4A, T cells (fluorescently labelled with CellTracker Violet BMQC) loaded in the proximal fluid channel of the device migrate towards hepatoma cells embedded in the 3D gel matrix.
