CD99 and breast cancer: Our data show that CD99-depleted breast cancer cells exhibit enhanced tumour progression in a metastatic xenograft model and enhanced TEM activity in vitro, consistent with the tumour-suppressor-like activity of CD99 found in osteosarcoma and gastric cancer, in which reduced CD99 expression is associated with increased migration and metastasis, and reduced survival (Lee et al., 2007; Manara et al., 2006).
