In the induction of pulmonary emphysema by elastase instillation (ELA), worsening of the lung mechanical parameters in the CETP ELA group (Figures 9A–C, E) was accompanied by a reduction in airway resistance (Raw) compared to the WT-ELA group (Figure 9E) These mechanical changes are consistent with the increase in the mean linear intercept, which is reflected in the widening of the air spaces owing to the destruction of the lung parenchyma in the CETP ELA (Figure 12C). The gene discussed is CETP; the disease is pulmonary emphysema.
