In the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2003–2006, 58.2% of patients with type 2 diabetes had an HbA1c <7%, 44.2% of patients were at a blood pressure goal of <130/80mmHg, 43.2% of patients had an LDL cholesterol<2.6 mmol/L, and 10.2% of patients were simultaneously at HbA1c, blood pressure and LDL cholesterol control goals, while those on insulin treatment were only 5.4% to get three goals (17).
