Intriguingly, Tau deletion prevents the aforementioned stress-induced signaling as well as neurostructural and behavioral deficits (Lopes et al., 2016), suggesting that Tau is the “final executor” of stress/GC induced neurotoxicity, similar to the reported role for Tau as a mediator of Aβ-driven neurotoxicity in AD (Ittner et al., 2010). The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
