The circulating levels of inflammatory markers (TNF-α, CRP and IL-1β) showed an expected trend of elevated levels in groups with higher MetS components (p < 0.01 in all); however, for circulating NLRP3 levels, this trend was missing when all subjects were taken into consideration in Table 1 (p = 0.44). This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and metabolic syndrome.
