Therapies for IBD have evolved from relatively simple anti-inflammatory medications (aminosalicylates and corticosteroids) to immunomodulators to specific molecules targeting selected pro-inflammatory secretion pathways, e.g., tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), interleukins (IL) IL-12/IL-23, and Janus kinases [4,5].
