Furthermore, recent reports from our laboratory have demonstrated that HBZ subcellular localization could be a prognostic marker of HTLV-1-disease progression, as HBZ is expressed solely in the cytoplasm of asymptomatic carriers (AC) and HAM/TSP subjects, while in tumor cells isolated from leukemic patients, it is also present in the nucleus [20,21,22].
