Immune effector cells can release large amounts of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and TGF-β, IFN-α, IFN-γ, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-12, IL-18 or IL-33) and chemokines (CCL2, CCL3, CCL5, CXCL8, CXCL9 or CXCL10) in response to SARS-CoV-2 infection [66] (Figure 1). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and COVID-19.
