Amongst the more than 30 ALS genes, additional important contributors to the number of ALS patients are found in the FUS gene-encoding form fused in sarcoma/translated in liposarcoma (FUS/TLS) [69], and in the TARDBP gene-encoding transactive response DNA binding protein 43 (TDP-43) [70,71]. The gene discussed is TARDBP; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
