VIPR2 and migraine disorder: In support, direct activation of adenosine triphosphate-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels or big-conductance calcium-activated potassium (BKCa) channels induced prolonged dilation of cranial arteries and triggered migraine attacks in more than 90% of all participants.41,42 Collectively, the present study implicates VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors in the pathogenesis of migraine, and selective antagonists might be of future interest for the treatment of migraine.
