Paradoxically, the large immune infiltrate encountered in germinomas seems to have no antitumour effect, and several studies aimed to evaluate the role of the programmed death receptor 1 (PD-1)/programmed death receptor 1 ligand (PD-L1) pathway, after it has been reported that PD-L1 is expressed by testicular seminomas, the gonadal counterpart to CNS germinomas [100]. The gene discussed is PDCD1; the disease is germinoma.
