SPOP and prostate cancer: Although it has been suggested that gene mutations could be predicted from H&E-stained WSIs [AUC of ∼0.85 for the prediction of STK11 mutations from lung cancer H&E images (Narula et al., 2018); AUC of ∼0.71 for the prediction of SPOP mutations from prostate cancer H&E images (Schaumberg et al., 2018); AUC of 0.71∼0.89 for the prediction of CTNNB1, FMN2, TP53, and ZFX4 mutations from hepatocellular carcinoma H&E images (Chen et al., 2020)], prior to this study, it was unclear whether gBRCA mutations would affect the pattern of tumor cells on BC H&E-stained WSIs.
