The role of LL-37 (also known as CRAMP) in murine models of diet-induced obesity is controversial as both beneficial and detrimental effects have been reported: For example, the overexpression of LL-37 in mice prevents diet-induced increases in cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36) expression, hepatic steatosis and obesity (11). The gene discussed is CD36; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
