Neurobiochemical studies have inferred that the mTOR signaling pathway is involved in the downstream signal transduction mechanism of genes related to schizophrenia, such as dopamine receptor D2 (DRD2) [13], disrupted in schizophrenia 1 (DISC1) [14], brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) [15], N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) [16], 5-HT receptors (5-HTRs) [17], and Reelin [18].
