Nevertheless, the existing knowledge described in this paper can provide solid bases to support the hypothesis that polyphenols can have protective properties against SARS-CoV-2 by modulating the expression of miRNAs of the host cells, hypothesis that can be corroborated with few studies that suggested that these bioactives can interact with ACE2 or other proteins involved in COVID-19 (Fig. 3).
