Some noteworthy genes whose transcription was increased for the ΔS273A mutant protein include: i) CD36, a membrane protein involved in fatty acid uptake into muscle and adipose tissue (52); ii) adiponectin, a hormone that plays crucial roles in preventing insulin resistance and T2DM (53); iii) adipsin, an adipokine that improves the function of insulin-producing β-cells (54); and iv) leptin, an appetite suppressant (55). This evidence concerns the gene CD36 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
