In an interesting study, Pinto et al. profiled macrophages in 150 colorectal cancer cases by immunohistochemistry; utilizing CD68 [as a marker of macrophage lineage (CD68 is one of good markers of TAMs (223))], CD80 (as a pro-inflammatory macrophage marker) and CD163 (as an anti-inflammatory macrophage marker). The gene discussed is CD163; the disease is colorectal cancer.
