Recent cardiovascular outcome trials (CVOTs) on several classes of glucose-lowering agents, including sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, have shown that these agents reduced cardiovascular events and death in patients with T2D at high cardiovascular risk or with established CVD. The gene discussed is SLC5A2; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
