In vivo and in vitro studies have shown that the inhibition or targeted deletion of CypD attenuated the mitochondrial necrosis of intestinal epithelial cells 148, macrophages 149 and eosinophils 150 induced by inflammatory stimuli such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID), LPS and Ca2+ or oxidative stress, respectively, thereby regulating enteritis, which is related to the closure of mPTP after CypD deficiency (Figure 2).
