Recent studies have illustrated that excessive NLRP3 inflammasome–induced IL-1β aggravates colitis, and the absence of NLRP3 inflammasome components has a protective role in the dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis model (Tourkochristou et al., 2019; Zhen and Zhang, 2019). The gene discussed is NLRP3; the disease is colitis.
